On May 12, 2023, the 8th Meeting of SCO Ministers of Agriculture was held online. Ma Youxiang, Vice Minister of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, led a delegation to attend the meeting.
Ma pointed out that in the face of many mutually reinforcing factors, such as the intertwined covid-19 pandemic and disasters, the sharply fluctuant food prices and the increasing of the prices of agricultural materials, China’s food production still achieved a harvest last year, which means China has achieved harvests for consecutive 19 years since 2004. In this connection, China has made a great contribution to world food security. China attaches great importance to SCO cooperation, as evidenced by close exchanges with member countries in terms of agricultural investment, trade, science and technology, etc. It is willing to strengthen policy dialogues and communications with member countries, expand talent exchanges and cultivation, promote scientific and technological cooperation and innovation, and jointly build models of economic and trade cooperation, thus continuously releasing cooperation potential.
The participants appreciated the importance of deepening cooperation in agriculture and food security under the SCO framework, and called for enhancing practical cooperation supported by SCO Agricultural High-Tech Industry Demonstration Zone.
