On March 17, the second lecture in a series of virtual training courses on types and industrial applications of agricultural facilities, hosted by the Office of Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Agricultural Technology Exchange Training Demonstration Base (the "Agricultural Base Office of SCO"), was successfully held. The lecture was mainly open to agricultural technicians, researchers and other related personnel from SCO countries and other developing countries, with more than 800 people participating.

The guest speaker for this lecture is Cheng Zhihui, a professor at the College of Horticulture of the Northwest Agriculture and Forestry University. He is mainly engaged in research on applied technology of protected horticulture and technology of protected vegetable cultivation.

The lecture introduces the structure and performance characteristics of heat-accumulating agricultural facilities and those with heating systems, such as polytunnels, solar greenhouses, glass greenhouses and large greenhouses, as well as their applications to crop production. The emphasis is put on the explanation of the application prospect of modern agricultural facilities such as intelligent greenhouses and plant factories and the practical characteristics of common greenhouses. The training course has been highly recognized by the participants, who believe that the contents of the course are both practical and forward-looking and play a good guiding role in the development of protected agriculture.

In the first half of 2022, the Agricultural Base Office of SCO will focus on the types and industrial applications of agricultural facilities to launch five online training courses, covering the types and applications of simple mulching facilities, the types and applications of heat-accumulating agricultural facilities and those with heating systems, the environmental performance and regulation technologies of temperature, light, humidity and gas in agricultural facilities, the characteristics and regulation technologies of environmental humidity and gas in agricultural facilities, and the environmental characteristics and regulation technologies of soil and pests in agricultural facilities.
