The 2020 Yangling Modern Agriculture Summit was held on October 22 in Yangling Agricultural Hi-tech Industries Demonstration Zone. Participants included Vladimir Norov, Secretary-General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), Qu Sixi, Representative of the United Nations World Food Program in China, Uzbek Ambassador to China Bakhtiyor Saidov, Kyrgyz Ambassador to China Baktygulova Kanaiym, Deputy Director Li Bo of the Department of Science, Technology and Education under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, and Alibaba Vice President Xiang Huangmei. They delivered speeches centered on food security and global agricultural cooperation.

SCO Secretary-General Norov hailed the notable progress the Yangling demonstration zone has made in alleviating poverty in rural areas and ensuring national food security. He also suggested the establishment of the SCO Agricultural Technology Exchange and Training Demonstration Base in Yangling provide fresh opportunities for the development of “smart agriculture” and “smart farm” in SCO member states.

Over the decades, China has produced one fourth of grain crops in the world. Qu Sixi said China’s success in feeding one fifth of the world’s population with less than 10 percent of arable lands on Earth is not only an achievement of the country, but also a great contribution to the world’s food and nutrition security.

Uzbek Ambassador Saidov expressed his country’s interest in new technology and new energy. He also described Yangling as an efficient platform for implementing mutually beneficial programs.

As part of the 27th China Yangling Agricultural High-tech Achievements Expo, the modern agriculture summit was aimed at promoting further development of international agricultural cooperation.
